Objective

In September 2009 we have embarked upon a mission to integrate the ATK framework with the Zend Framework. The reasoning behind this is that while ATK is still one of the most powerful CRUD frameworks, there is a large overlap in functionality when it comes to base framework tasks. Since the Zend Framework has a wider target audience and as such more developers, it is beneficial to the ATK framework to start leveraging components from the Zend Framework.

One of the first steps was to adopt the Zend Framework coding standard, although it will take a while before we'll see full adoption in the public ATK release.

What does this mean for ATK developers?

To ATK developers, this means an even more powerful framework, taking advantage of everything ATK already offered, and everything that the Zend Framework offers.

What does this mean for Zend Framework developers?

To Zend Framework developers, the ATK framework will become an interesting add-on module that makes it possible to create ZF based CRUD applications in very few lines of code.

Roadmap

The roadmap is that during 2010, we will be refactoring parts of ATK to make use of the Zend Framework. There are no strict deadlines, 'it's done when it's done' as many Open Source projects have.
